Improvement of Surface Quality and Process Area Rate in Selective Laser Melting by Beam Oscillation Scan Technique

Abstract Selective laser melting (SLM) has potential benefits for additive manufacturing of complex and precise metal parts with required mechanical material properties. However, the improvement surface quality minimization fabrication time still remark a challenge efficient by SLM. Among process parameters, scan strategy significant influence on stability final manufactured three-dimensional products. This paper demonstrates investigation an alternative to improve reduction energy input. Hereby, is performed conventional linear oscillating beam movement in self-developed SLM chamber. Comparative analysis specimens regarding density was performed. The investigations show decrease average variation profile up 50% relative experimented technique. Due increased melt pool during oscillation movement, hatch distance increased. As result, applied input reduced more than 28%, area rate raised compared movement.
